Oil and Gas Exploration & Development

Recent increases in global oil demands and oil prices have led to a remarkable increase in development in Alberta’s and British Columbia’s oil and gas rich regions. As such oil drilling and exploration is occurring more frequently on lands and territories held and used by Aboriginal peoples. These include treaty territories controlled by First Nations Bands as well as areas of traditional use by Aboriginal peoples.

Mineral Exploration, Mining

Like oil and gas development, mineral exploration and mining has the potential to create significant environmental and financial impacts on and from lands in native territories or regions of traditional use by various aboriginal peoples. Again, consultation is required under law before such development projects can proceed.

Forestry

All resource extraction, not just oil and gas, must include consultation with affected Aboriginal peoples. Timber and fiber extraction are no exceptions. Consultation with First Nations and Aboriginal peoples is a requirement whenever proposed development projects occur on their land or areas of traditional use.

Our team at Beisel Law are experienced with developing consultation plans that allow our clients to complete these necessary steps in an efficient and productive manner. Not only do we help prevent litigation we help to forge strong partnerships with long term rewards for all parties involved.
